US President Joe Biden announced a new package of security assistance to Ukraine worth $425 million.
This was announced today, October 16, in a statement from the White House following Biden’s conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The President today announced a $425 million security assistance package to Ukraine that includes additional air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical munitions to meet Ukraine’s immediate needs, the statement said.
The White House noted that in the coming months the United States will provide Ukraine with a number of additional opportunities, in particular:
- hundreds of air defense interceptors;
- dozens of tactical air defense systems;
- additional artillery systems;
- a significant amount of ammunition;
- hundreds of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles;
- thousands of additional armored vehicles.
It is also noted that:
- Zelensky briefed Biden on his plan to defeat Russia, and both presidents instructed their teams to continue consultations on next steps;
- As part of his efforts to provide Ukraine with the equipment it needs to win, Biden will host a virtual leader-level meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in November 2024 to coordinate the actions of international partners on this issue.
