We are talking about inertial navigation devices that allow you to determine the location independently of GPS and use weapon systems despite failures.
On October 9, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen authorized the country’s Defense Forces to sign a framework agreement for the purchase of devices to protect against GPS failures. Yle reports this in connection with a statement by the Finnish Ministry of Defense.
We are talking about inertial navigation devices that allow you to determine the location independently of GPS and use weapon systems despite failures. Their supplier is the French company Safran Electronics & Defense.
The agreement covers purchases until 2031, and the total value of the devices excluding VAT, including options, is 48 million euros.
Let’s recall that since Russia began its massive invasion of Ukraine, major GPS failures have been observed around the Gulf of Finland and Eastern Finland.
It was previously reported that European companies’ flights were suffering from GPS interference from Russia. GPS jammers transmit false data that interferes with critical satellite navigation signals that airliner systems rely on.
