Hungary opposes military aid to Ukraine, maintains close economic ties with Russia even after its massive invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and often blocks EU decisions related to Ukraine.
Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance will lead to a third world war. This was said by the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjártó, on Wednesday, October 9, following a meeting of the Hungarian-Serbian Joint Economic Committee, writes Index.
He explained this through the corresponding clause of the NATO Charter on collective defense.
“I believe that anyone who thinks about this issue with common sense does not want to cause this danger. Therefore, Hungary’s position is clear: Ukraine’s entry into NATO is impossible,” he said.
Szijjártó added that this is the position held by most NATO foreign ministers, but only expressed during closed negotiations.
The day before, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Ukraine’s entry into NATO could lead to a third world war. So the politician said that his state opposes the membership of Ukraine.
Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed that accepting the invitation to NATO is part of Ukraine’s Victory Plan.
