The New York Times believes that the purpose of such actions of the aggressor country is to try to withdraw part of the Ukrainian forces from the front line.
Russian troops continue to attack southern Ukraine. With such maneuvers, Russia is likely trying to augment Ukrainian forces and pull some of them away from the Donetsk region. This was reported by The New York Times.
Following the Ukrainian counteroffensive last fall, there was a relative lull in fighting in the southern regions. However, the Russian army has now deployed new units here in preparation for the upcoming attack. The other day, Russian troops entered the village of Kamenskoye near Zaporozhye and are already attacking in other parts of this direction.
Journalists say that the Russians are actively using the so-called “pincer” tactics: Russian troops approached the recently captured city of Ugledar in the Donetsk region from three directions.
The head of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Sergei Kuzan, noted that the capture of Ugledar would complicate the defense of Kurakhovoy.
“The Russians have been attacking this area for a long time, and this is one of the most active sectors of the front near the Pokrovsky sector,” he explained.
Earlier, the media said that the Russian invaders would try to control the logistics routes in the Zaporozhye region.
