Ukraine should receive the right to destroy launch pads where Russian planes with missiles fly.
It is wrong to prohibit Ukraine from attacking military targets on Russian territory with German weapons. However, permission for such strikes must be limited to a certain distance. German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock said this on Monday, October 7, in an interview with the ARD television channel.
The head of German diplomacy emphasized that Ukraine has the right to strike not only when enemy missiles fly into its territory.
“Ukraine should have the right to destroy launch pads where Russian planes with missiles have flown. However, the question is how far Ukraine should be allowed to hit,” Burbock said.
The German Foreign Minister explained that we are discussing preventive measures to prevent further Russian attacks on Ukraine. He clarified that the distance at which the strikes will be allowed on the territory of the Russian Federation – “ten, 40 or 200 kilometers” – will not be made public, because the Russian side can use it.
We remind you that Ukraine has not yet received permission to launch attacks with Western missiles deep into the territory of the Russian Federation. The main reason is the skepticism of the US. At the same time, allies are changing their minds, but very slowly.
Meanwhile, Russia plans to change its nuclear doctrine to protect Ukraine’s allies from allowing Ukraine to invade Russian territory with Western weapons.
