The Slovak Prime Minister, going beyond the memories of the origin of this gas, assures that from the continuation of the transit “both Slovakia and Ukraine will benefit.”
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico aims to convince Ukraine not to stop the transit of Russian gas and oil after 2024. Slovak publication Aktuality reported this.
“We will convince the Ukrainian partners to use their energy infrastructure to import gas and oil to Europe… If Ukraine wants to maintain this infrastructure, it must be used,” said the head of the Slovak government .
Slovakia remains a supporter of Ukraine’s European integration, so it “hopes for friendly steps” in response from Kyiv, the official said.
“Both Slovakia and Ukraine will benefit from this, because the transit fee is paid,” Fico convinced.
The media said that in direct language about transit from Ukraine, the Slovak Prime Minister deliberately avoided mentioning that the gas was specifically coming from Russia.
As you know, in July, Hungary and Slovakia announced the cessation of oil supplies from the Russian company LUKOIL through Ukraine due to Kiev’s addition of the company to the list of sanctions. Hungary and Slovakia have asked the European Commission to start consultations on a trade agreement with Ukraine.
Let’s recall that in September, the Reuters news agency wrote that the Russian company Lukoil plans to continue exporting oil through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary after its Hungarian partner MOL entered the agreement to bring this oil through Belarus and Ukraine.
