Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga met with Polish President Andrzej Duda.
I am glad to be received by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda in Warsaw. We discussed Ukraine’s priority defense needs, further military assistance, Ukraine’s invitation to NATO, and our path to EU membership. We also outlined ways to strengthen our good-neighborly bilateral relations, the minister said.
Sibiga said that Ukraine is ready to discuss with Poland the issue of the Volyn tragedy, which will hinder European integration.
According to him, Ukraine has enough political will and diplomatic tools to resolve the most difficult issues, including topics related to relations with Poland, one of Ukraine’s closest allies.
We will talk about this topic today,” Sibiga noted, but did not specify with whom he would discuss this topic.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Wladislaw Teofil Bartoszewski said that Poland intends to raise the topic of “complex history” in relations with Ukraine, in particular the issue of exhuming Polish victims of the Volyn tragedy, already in the first negotiating chapter on membership between Ukraine and the EU.
The Volyn tragedy still affects Ukrainian-Polish relations. But Kyiv and Warsaw are unable to come to an agreement. And now the Poles are saying: Ukraine will not be a member of the EU if it does not resolve historical issues with Poland.
