In the past, Mark Rutte spent “more than an hour” in negotiations with Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov recalled.
The Kremlin does not expect any significant changes in NATO’s position after Jens Stoltenberg was replaced as Secretary General of the Alliance by the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said this at a briefing on Tuesday, October 1.
“Our expectations are that the North Atlantic Alliance will continue in the same direction in which it has worked,” he said in response to questions from journalists.
The Kremlin spokesman recalled that in the past Rutte “spent more than an hour talking with Vladimir Putin.”
“At one time there were hopes for the possibility of building good, pragmatic relations, at least this was the conversation that was carried out but later we know that the Netherlands took a rather uncompromising position, a position that completely excludes any contacts with our country.. Therefore, we do not think that anything new or significant will happen in the policy of the Alliance,” Peskov added.
We remind you that on October 1, a ceremony of the transfer of powers of the Secretary General of the Alliance took place at the headquarters of NATO. Mark Rutte’s candidacy for this post was agreed upon by all 32 NATO member states in June this year. Previously, he served as the Prime Minister of the Netherlands for nearly 14 years.
During the ceremony, Rutte said that Ukraine is among NATO’s top priorities and that it has its rightful place in the Alliance.
