Ukraine is a sovereign state and does not require US permission to strike targets on Russian territory.
US State Department Speaker Matthew Miller said this while answering questions from journalists during a briefing, the White House press service reports.
Ukraine does not need our permission to retaliate against Russian targets. They are a sovereign country and can use weapons that they create on their own, and there are a lot of them if you look at the programs that they have introduced over the last year,” Miller emphasized.
And if you look at the weapons that we provided to them, we made it clear that they could use them to retaliate against Russian targets across the border that were carrying out attacks,” he added.
Miller noted that the United States always considers additional tools that it can provide to Ukraine. In particular, he recalled the almost $8 billion military aid package recently approved by US President Joe Biden.
We’re looking at all the capabilities, all the tactics, and all the support that we’re providing to Ukraine, holistically, and looking at how that impacts the entire battlefield and the entire strategy of Ukraine. And this is what we will continue to do,” Miller emphasized.
