In particular, Sibiga visited the first bilingual Ukrainian-Hungarian school in Hungary and emphasized that Ukraine confirms its bilateral and international obligations.
During the negotiations on September 30, the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Hungary, Andrei Sibiga and Peter Szijjártó, noted the positive dynamics in ensuring the rights of representatives of the Hungarian national community. The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced this at a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart in Budapest, Ukrinform reports.
“The minister and I noted the positive dynamics in solving this issue, and also agreed on further interaction to achieve mutual understanding on all sensitive issues of mutual understanding between our states,” said Ukrainian minister
In particular, Sibiga visited the first bilingual Ukrainian-Hungarian school in Hungary and emphasized that Ukraine confirms its bilateral and international obligations to ensure the rights of people belonging to the Hungarian national community.
The minister noted that ethnic Hungarians now defend Ukraine with weapons in their hands in front and support the country in the back.
“For us, this is the best evidence that the Hungarian national community is our strength, our Erős Pista (from Hungarian Erős Pista – “strong Stepan”, a famous Hungarian seasoning, very spicy, cultural and archetypal connotations), speaking in culinary language “that we are now equal in defending our freedom and life,” emphasis Sibiga.
He added that Ukraine is counting on Hungary’s continued support for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union, both during the current EU presidency and beyond. In particular, to support the opening of negotiation clusters in parallel.
The parties also agreed on next steps to develop border infrastructure and agreed to hold the next meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry reported that the one-on-one negotiations lasted about an hour, twice the length of the plan. After their completion, negotiations began in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.
Let’s remember that on Monday it became known that Andrei Sibiga is visiting Hungary on a working visit to participate in bilateral negotiations with his Hungarian colleague Peter Szijjártó. The main topics of the negotiations were the development of good neighborly relations and the implementation of joint projects in different areas. The ministers will also discuss the protection of the rights of national minorities, Ukraine’s progress towards joining the EU and NATO and the Peace Formula.
