After the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iran demanded an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
Following Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iran called on the UN Security Council to hold a meeting on Israel’s actions in Lebanon and across the region. Reuters reported this on Sunday, September 29.
The letter on behalf of Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani calls on the UN Security Council to “take immediate and decisive action to stop Israel’s continued aggression and prevent… the region from being drawn into a full-scale war .”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly warns against any attacks on its diplomatic premises and representatives that violate the basic principle of inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and reiterates that it will not allow such an attack to be repeated, ” said the letter.
Iran’s ambassador said Tehran is “ready to take all necessary measures” to protect its national and security interests, in accordance with international law.
“Iran will not hesitate to use its inalienable rights under international law to take all measures to protect its vital national interests and security,” Iravani said.
It will be recalled that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Nasrallah was killed in an airstrike on September 27 in Beirut. On September 28, Hezbollah officially confirmed the death of its leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Following Nasrallah’s assassination, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was moved to a safe location inside the country under tight security measures.
