Nine teenagers and a 20-year-old boy were returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory from the occupied territories and Russia. This was reported by Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets.
Most of the returned children are reported to be between 13 and 17 years old. Some of them have disabilities and serious illnesses.
Now we have met children who were separated from their parents or legal guardians by the front line and by the occupiers. Returned Ukrainians are from Kherson, Zaporozhye, Donetsk, Lugansk regions and Crimea. Some of the returned children were in the Oleshkovsky orphanage at the beginning of the full Russian invasion of Ukraine. Subsequently, the occupation authorities took them to Skadovsk and Russia. Fortunately, through the mediation of the State of Qatar, it was possible to reunite the children with their families, who were separated for a long time by the Russians,” the statement said.
Lubinets added that not only adults, but also children contacted the Office of the Ombudsman.
“One of the children, who returned to his native land today, lost his father, who defended Ukraine during the Russian invasion, some of the children will finally, after a long time, embrace their relatives who faithfully serve in various structures of Ukraine. Some return to their grandfather with grandmother, because they can give a happy childhood in their native land. For help in reunification, not only adults, but also children, who dreamed of going to their mothers and fathers in their native land, contacted us – the message continued.
It was previously reported that 12 more minor Ukrainian citizens were returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory from the occupation.
