Stubb believes that Ukraine will first have bilateral security guarantees with the United States, Great Britain or France, after which the country will become a member of the EU and only then a member of NATO.
Before joining NATO, Ukraine must become a member of the EU. This opinion was expressed at the Helsinki Forum by the President of Finland Alexander Stubb, European Pravda reports on Friday, September 27.
He noted that inviting Ukraine to NATO by the end of the year is unrealistic, but considers inviting Ukraine to NATO realistic in the long term.
“I think the order is: first, EU membership, second, NATO membership,” Stubb said.
In his opinion, the first security agreements will be agreed with Ukraine, then Ukraine should agree on bilateral security guarantees with countries such as the USA, Great Britain or France, after which it can become a member Ukraine was a member of the EU and then only a member of NATO.
At the same time, Stubb rejected the idea that Russia could use the war to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO, because, according to him, sooner or later the war would end anyway.
It was previously reported that two NATO headquarters are located in Finland: the headquarters of the ground forces in Northern Europe and the headquarters of the advanced ground forces of the alliance.
