Norway, like most countries in the European Union, introduced temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees after the outbreak of war in February 2022.

Norway has begun denying temporary protection to Ukrainian refugees arriving in the country from “safe” regions of the country or those who did not live in Ukraine at the beginning of the war. NRK wrote this on Thursday, September 26.

In particular, Norway’s Justice Minister Emilia Enger Mehl said that the country is facing a refugee crisis and is forced to save not only Ukrainians, but also refugees from other countries.

“The government should focus on helping those who really need protection,” the official said.

It is indicated that Norway has received more than 80 thousand Ukrainian refugees, which is more than the population of the entire province of Finnmark.

Norway, like most countries in the European Union, introduced temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees after the outbreak of war in February 2022. However, in the spring of 2024, the government announced the introduction of an individual approach to consideration of applications.

“Now Ukrainians who are not in their homeland during the outbreak of war or who have dual citizenship cannot count on automatic protection,” the publication explained.

In addition, those arriving from regions of Ukraine recognized as safe may also be refused. These include Lviv, Volyn, Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Rivne regions. According to the Norwegian authorities, there is no active conflict in these regions, so staying there is considered safe.

It was previously reported that in Sweden migrants will be paid $34,000 to leave the country.
