Law enforcement officials detained an arsonist who was carrying out orders from the Russian special services in Transcarpathia. The SBU reported this on September 26.
It was noted that the defendant was a 21-year-old migrant from the Vinnytsia region who was looking for quick money. A representative of the Russian special services contacted him via Telegram and offered him money in exchange for cooperation.
At the direction of the Russians, within 24 hours, a young man set fire to a service SUV of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a car of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
Hoping to receive funds, the defendant recorded the fire on his phone camera and sent a video report to the Russian administrator. However, the “customer” from Russia refused to pay and promised to pay after carrying out a few more arson attacks.
The accused was arrested the moment he set fire to the third car. At the scene of the incident, incendiary devices and a mobile phone with evidence of correspondence with the Russians were confiscated.
The man is suspected under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional destruction or damage to property; blocking the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period.
The defendant is in custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
