India has spoken to both sides, trying to understand how to speed up the peace talks, the foreign minister explained.
The war between Ukraine and Russia cannot be ended by military means. Therefore, the Indian authorities are taking steps to facilitate dialogue between the parties. India’s Foreign Minister Subramaniyam Jaishankar said this, The Hindu reported on Wednesday, September 25.
India has held talks with both sides to see how the peace talks can be accelerated, he said.
“This is a kind of reconnaissance that we are conducting. I mean, we don’t have a peace plan,” Jaishankar clarified.
The minister said that the Indian side was sharing the talks he had with one side and the other side.
“My sense is that both sides appreciate it,” he said, adding that there are not many countries or leaders willing or able to engage with both sides.
Jaishankar’s remarks came shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the UN General Assembly.
Earlier in September, Ukraine asked India to host a second peace summit before November, but it was unclear whether New Delhi would agree.
