Large-scale forest fires are observed in the Sumy region.
Over the past 24 hours, 13 forest fires have broken out in the forests of Sumy region, covering at least 50 hectares. The fires were caused by continuous shelling, which continues both day and night. Due to dry weather and wind, the flames are spreading at breakneck speed. The Northern Forestry Office reported this on Facebook on September 20.
It is noted that they are trying to contain the fire, but due to the dangers and mined areas, they can only work in accessible areas.
In the Svesky branch, 11 fires broke out on an area of 47.3 hectares. Cans with an incendiary mixture, which the Russian army drops using UAVs, were found on the territory of the branch. Foresters believe that this could have been the main cause of numerous fires. Thanks to the actions of the forest protection service, all fires were quickly extinguished.
And in the Sumy branch, two fires were recorded, the fire spread to an area of at least 5 hectares. One fire was extinguished, the other is still being tried to be extinguished since yesterday.
Let us recall that on September 20, in the Kyiv region, there was not smog, but smoke caused by the spread of smoke from the north and northeast from fires that arose in peatlands and open areas in the Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. At present, the synoptic situation is determined by a field of high pressure, weak northern and northeastern wind, which contributes to the accumulation of harmful impurities in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
