The Hungarian capital is preparing for the most difficult period of flooding on the Danube. This was said by the mayor of Budapest, Gergely Koracsony, 444.hu reported on Friday, September 20.
“Budapest is ready for the peak, but the hardest part starts now,” the mayor said.
The flood is expected to increase on Saturday 21 September. In areas vulnerable to flooding, temporary dams up to nine meters high have been installed and are constantly patrolled.
Ahead of the approaching high water, Hungary said it expected the “flood of the decade” but that the water should not exceed the record level of 2013.
We remind you that the day before the water level in the Danube in Budapest rose by more than a meter, the water came close to the building of the Hungarian Parliament.
According to weather forecasters, the storm that erupted in Central Europe has lost its strength and will not reach the territory of Ukraine.
