The case of the ex-mayor of the city of Sumy Alexander Lysenko on bribery was sent to court. This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) on Thursday, September 19.
So, yesterday, the SAPO prosecutor sent to court the case of the former mayor of Sumy and his accomplice Alexander Zhurba – former director of the Department of Infrastructure of the Sumy City Council – on the request and receipt of illegal benefits in particularly large size. , meaning 2,130,000 hryvnias.
According to the investigation, Lysenko and Zhurba demanded a bribe from a local waste collection company to establish a new tariff for household waste management.
From November 2022 to October 2023, the investigation documented the receipt of bribes in the total amount of 2.13 million hryvnias. In October 2023, the defendants were exposed “to the heat” immediately after receiving a third of the bribe – 1.43 million hryvnias.
Their actions are qualified under the article on accepting a bribe on a particularly large scale or by an official holding a particularly responsible position (Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The defendants face 8 to 12 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
We remind you that in October 2023, the court arrested the former mayor of Sumy with the possibility of bail in the amount of 3 million hryvnias. In turn, Lysenko said that he did not receive a bribe and did not see the money.
At the same time, on October 6, Alexander Lysenko was released on bail.
