Explosions in the area of the Engels airfield in the Saratov region of Russia thundered on the night of September 17.
At the time of the explosions, several Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers could have been at the airfield. This is confirmed by satellite images taken on September 15. This was reported by the publication Defense Express.
The satellite photo showed four Tu-95MS bombers and two Tu-160s. Also in the photos, one can see two painted silhouettes of Tu-160s and one transport plane, presumably an An-12.

At the time of the explosions on September 17, which were likely caused by an attack by Ukrainian UAVs, such strategic aviation could still have been at the airfield.
Defense Express writes that four Tu-95MS can carry up to 32 long-range cruise missiles.
Let us recall that on September 17, explosions were heard in the area of the Engels airfield. Eyewitnesses reported that a fire started after that.
