Harris’ fans have launched an advert targeting Americans of Eastern European descent.
The Democratic-leaning super PAC America’s Future Majority Fund has launched a new ad campaign aimed at mobilizing voters of Polish, Ukrainian, and Lithuanian descent, Politico reported. The ads will air in Pennsylvania and then in Michigan and Wisconsin, traditionally swing states in presidential elections.
The ads are aimed at convincing voters that Trump, if elected, would abandon Ukraine and NATO’s eastern allies, while Harris is prepared to stand up to Vladimir Putin and support Ukraine.
The ad campaign is in line with Democrats’ strategy of specifically reaching out to communities of voters for whom the war in Ukraine has a more personal resonance.
Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, the target states of the ads, have significant populations of Americans with Eastern European ancestry, including more than 2 million Polish Americans and just over 150,000 Ukrainian Americans.
The campaign also took into account the results of previous elections. In 2020, Biden beat Trump in Pennsylvania by 80,000 votes, Michigan by 154,000 votes, and Wisconsin by 20,000 votes. In the current presidential race, which is expected to be very competitive, the votes of Americans of Eastern European descent in these key states could be decisive.
At the same time, there are no polls that focus on these groups of Americans and whether the war in Ukraine is a driving factor in their voting decisions. A new poll by the Cato Institute and YouGov found that voters in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan narrowly believe Trump has a better chance of resolving the war in Ukraine.
