Meta has banned the activities of the propaganda media group Rossiya on its platforms. The company cited “foreign interference” as the reason. The ban will come into effect in the coming days. The media group includes RIA Novosti, RT, TV-Novosti, Ruptly and Sputnik.
Earlier this month, the US imposed sanctions on the media group and its subsidiaries for attempting to influence the election.
“Russia Today, RT and other affiliated organisations are now blocked from our apps worldwide for activities related to foreign interference,” the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp said in a statement.
Earlier it became known that the US imposed sanctions against media manager Dmitry Kiselev and the Rossiya Segodnya agency. American authorities claim that the RT channel interfered in the elections and also has the ability to carry out intelligence activities and cyber operations.
