The State Language Protection Commissioner, Taras Kremin, has issued 49 warnings and imposed 16 fines for violating the Internet language law since the beginning of 2024. He announced this on his Facebook page.
“Since the beginning of 2024, 421 complaints have been received regarding violations of Part 6 of Article 27 of the law Ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state languageregulating the use of the state language on the Internet (which is almost 50% lower than this time in 2023),” said the ombudsman.
Since the beginning of 2024, based on citizens’ complaints, 161 state control measures have been launched on identified business entities. Most of the Internet resources at the time of control removed the violation of the language law.
At the same time, as of September 10, 49 warnings were issued and 16 fines were imposed for the lack of a version of the site in the Ukrainian language or for loading the site by default in a non-state language.
For violating the requirements of the state language law on the Internet, violators may be administratively liable with a fine in the amount of 200 to 300 tax-free minimum income of citizens (from 3,400 to 5,100 UAH) or a warning if the violation is committed for the first time.
For repeated violations within a year, a fine is issued in the amount of 500 to 700 tax-free minimum income of citizens (8,500-11,900 UAH).
It was previously reported that language inspectors will begin work in Ivano-Frankivsk to counter the spread of the Russian language. The mayor of the city spoke about the activities of the language inspection.
