The flooding that has wreaked havoc in eastern and central Europe is being called the worst since 1997. Two people have died as a result of flooding in Poland.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the declaration of a natural disaster due to flooding in the south of the country. He announced this on Sunday, September 15, on his page on the social network X (Twitter).

“After consultations with the competent ministers and services, I ordered the preparation of a decree of the Council of Ministers on the declaration of a natural disaster,” Tusk wrote.

As TVP Info writes, in practice, this means changes in the distribution of powers between government authorities: the government and voivode will control the crisis and issue binding orders to local authorities.

It is known that in Poland, the rise of water occurred in the Silesian and Lower Silesian voivodeships in the south and southwest of the country due to the flow of the Nisa River after heavy rains. In some places, bridges were washed away, and in some communities, evacuations began using helicopters.

Due to bad weather, classes were suspended in more than 350 kindergartens and schools in four voivodeships.

Two people are known to have died in Poland as a result of the flood. About 50 thousand residents of the south of the country remain without electricity.

Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga said Ukraine stands in solidarity with its neighbors who are suffering from devastating floods. Currently, our state has offered assistance to six affected countries.

Ukrzaliznytsia has updated data on the situation on railways due to flooding in Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria.
