President Joseph Biden will support Ukraine’s victory over Russia until his last day in office.
This was stated by US Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
We have four months and a few days with President Biden as president, and we are going to make every one of those days count when it comes to supporting Ukraine, because I believe that we are at a vital moment, at a crossroads, and that we must do everything we can to ensure that Ukraine wins this war and becomes a proud, free, independent country, leaning on the West,” Sullivan said in a speech at the 20th annual YES meeting in Kyiv.
He also confirmed that Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky will discuss a strategy for success in the war against Russia at the end of September.
“We need a comprehensive strategy to succeed in this war, and that’s what President Zelenskyy is proposing. And we look forward to sitting down and having that conversation with him. President Biden looks forward to that conversation,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan noted that it is right that Zelenskyy represents this strategy, because it is the democratically elected government of Ukraine and the people of Ukraine who must determine “the course of the war, its path to victory, and all the parts that fit together.”
We have been very clear from the beginning that our task is to ensure that Ukraine is in a strong position on the battlefield, so that they are in a strong position at the negotiating table. President Zelenskyy has said that this war must finally end through negotiations, and we need them to be strong in these negotiations. They will determine for themselves when they will sit down at the negotiating table and on what terms.
President Biden will have four months left by then, and he intends to use them to put Ukraine in a better position to win, the US presidential adviser stressed.
He added that during the meeting the American side will present its proposals for possible support, and Ukraine will look at them “in the context of the diplomatic strategy.”
