The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has hit rock bottom with its response to Russia’s shooting of their convoy.
This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmitry Lubinets.
The Ombudsman noted that the Russians committed another crime in the morning, and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross published her statement only in the evening, and did not say a word about the occupiers.
There is no other way but to close the ICRC mission in Russia and, in fact, in Ukraine, because we can no longer receive anything positive from them, unfortunately. The current leadership has simply destroyed the name of the ICRC with its long history, – said Lubinets.
He added that it was possible to “put a lock on” this organization and approach their largest donors with a proposal to create a new one, because it was no longer effective.
The Geneva office of the Red Cross condemned the attack on its mission, which killed three of its staff. But the ICRC made no mention of Russia or the Russian army in its statement.
The same was done by the representative of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine, Alexander Vlasenko. On air of the project “Donbass Realii”, he noted that the organization is suspending the work of its office in Dnepr.
But there was no condemnation of the Russians for the attack.
When asked about his involvement in the attack, the speaker began to spout nonsense:
We don’t know 100% for sure, [хто причетний]because we are not the police, we cannot conduct our investigation, we do not have such capabilities. Besides, yes, we are a neutral organization, we always act in the following way. We never try to expose and name. It is a tragedy for us when we lose our employees.
The ICRC office in Dnipro is suspending operations after a strike on its mission in Donetsk region on September 12. According to Vlasenko, after the attack, the Red Cross will review the safety rules that the committee’s staff have been following and working “very well” since 2014.
According to the speaker, “it is not so important to name some of the culprits, but to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.”
We have offices in Kharkov, Dnipro and Odessa, as well as the head office in Kyiv and an office in Lviv, and on the opposite side – in Donetsk and Lugansk. For now, our Dnipro office has stopped working for a while. We will conduct our own investigation of this situation, we will try to understand whether there were any mistakes on our part, Vlasenko said.
ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric issued a statement condemning “in the strongest possible terms” the attacks on Red Cross staff.
It is absolutely unacceptable that humanitarian aid distribution sites are being shelled. Today, our hearts are broken, we mourn the loss of our colleagues and provide assistance to the wounded. This tragedy causes a wave of grief, very familiar to those who have lost loved ones in armed conflict, – Spoljarich emphasized, also not recalling the culprit of the death of three and the wounding of two mission employees.
