USA. Supreme Court Buried Trump’s Challenged Immigration Executive Order

The US Supreme Court on Thursday (June 30) ruled in favor of Joe Biden, who overturned former President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration order to send asylum seekers apprehended at the border to Mexico during their case.

By a very narrow majority (5 to 4), the justices ruled that ending the automatic transfer of migrants to Mexico does not violate US immigration law. Size, duplicatedStay in Mexico(Stay in Mexico), implemented in 2019, when the United States recorded an influx of refugees at the border with Mexico. It was widely criticized by civil rights groups when President Trump made the fight against illegal immigration one of his policy hallmarks.

Against immigration law

The end of this measure was announced in February 2021, just weeks after Joe Biden took office, and then implemented in June. But two states, Texas and Missouri, challenged the decision in court, which ruled in their favor, finding that ending the provision violated an immigration law that requires law enforcement agencies to release detained migrants due to lack of space in detention facilities. The appeal court upheld the decision. The government then revised its copy at the end of October 2021, taking into account the court rulings, and then seized the High Court.

The latter, therefore, ruled Thursday that Homeland Security Minister Alejandro Mayorkas’ decree passed in October did not violate immigration law and replaced a precedent that was attacked by both states. Every year, tens of thousands of migrants from Central and Latin America seek to reach the United States, fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries, and several hundred lose their lives there. An overheated and overloaded truck was found in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, killing 53 people in one of the worst immigration dramas in the US.
