The North Korean dictator spoke about potential threats that require the DPRK to continue to expand its defenses and strengthen its ability to launch a preemptive strike.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered an increase in the number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment to increase the nuclear arsenal “exponentially.” He gave this order during a visit to the Institute of Nuclear Weapons and the Production Base of Weapon-Class Nuclear Materials, the state agency KCNA reported.
“Recently, the nuclear threat schemes from the American imperialists and the forces of their satellites against our republic are becoming more open and crossing the red line,” emphasized Kim.
According to him, potential threats require the DPRK to “continue to expand and strengthen defense capabilities and strengthen the ability to launch a preventive strike.”
Kim Jong Un also visited the uranium enrichment control facility to view its production lines and observed the testing of a new 600mm multiple launch rocket system.
According to KCNA, Kim said he “felt empowered” when he saw the work site during his visit.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) did not specify the exact location or date of the inspection, but said Kim’s visit was part of plans to strengthen the country’s nuclear deterrent.
South Korean and US intelligence agencies believe North Korea operates a uranium enrichment facility at the Kangsong nuclear complex near Pyongyang and the Yongbyon nuclear site.
It was previously reported that North Korea said it had successfully tested a new tactical ballistic missile called the Hwasongpho-11 Da-4.5, capable of carrying a heavy-duty warhead.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned North Korea’s September 12 ballistic missile launch, calling Pyongyang’s actions “irresponsible.”
