For their defamation, the women will pay thousands of euros in moral compensation to the first lady and her brother.
In France, two bloggers were found guilty of libel for spreading the theory that President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte, was transgender. The BBC reported this on Thursday, September 12.
It was noted that in December 2021, two bloggers recorded a video in which they convinced their viewers that Brigitte Macron supposedly “never existed,” and that Jean-Michel Trogneau, the brother of the first lady, lives under that name. Before the 2022 presidential elections, the recording was actively distributed by right-wing radicals who tried to discredit the current head of state.
The court decided that the women will pay 8 thousand euros as moral compensation to Brigitte Macron and 5 thousand euros to her brother for their lies. The first lady’s lawyers said they consider the verdict “not a victory, but a fair application of the law.”
Usually, the wives of the French president become the heroes of gossip and Internet trolling not because of the gender issue, but because of the age difference: Brigitte Macron is almost 25 years older than her husband.
It was previously reported that Brigitte Macron filed a lawsuit against a journalist who claimed that the first lady of France was born a boy.
