US presidential candidate Kamala Harris increased her lead over her rival Donald Trump to 5% after the debate. Reuters reported this on Thursday, September 12.
It noted that according to the two-day Reuters/Ipsos poll, among registered voters, Harris was leading by 5%, which was more than the results of the poll from August 21-28.
Specifically, among voters who said they heard at least something about Tuesday’s debate, 53% said Harris won, while 24% said Trump won. Others said they didn’t hear or didn’t respond. About 52% of those familiar with the debate said Trump was confused and did not appear clear. And 21% said the same about Harris.
Among Republican voters, one in five said Harris put Trump on the defensive in the heated presidential debate.

Voters generally gave Harris better marks than Trump for the way he carried himself. When asked which of them seemed more honorable, 56% of people familiar with the debate preferred Harris, compared to 24% who preferred Trump. Forty-nine percent said Harris “seems like someone who will listen to me and understand my problems,” compared to 18% who rated Trump the same.
The survey surveyed 1,690 US adults nationwide, including 1,405 registered voters. The margin of error was about three percentage points for registered voters.
Let’s remember that according to a CNN poll, 63% of respondents believed that Harris won the debate. 37% of Americans believe Trump won.
