They want to abolish gold and silver medals for school graduates.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation has recognized the centralized production of medals at the expense of the state budget as inappropriate.
The committee secretary, Natalia Pipa, reported that the Rada recommends canceling the issuance of gold and silver medals in schools.
This anachronism still exists only in post-Soviet countries, the deputy noted.
According to her, this decision will help save state budget funds.
Over 66,000 medals were produced in five years. In 2024, they produced twice (!!!) more than in 2020, although the level of knowledge and the number of students decreased.
Pipa concludes: the number of medals does not reflect the quality of education.
Initially, the 2025 budget requested almost UAH 4.6 million for gold medals and more than UAH 1 million for silver medals.
Let us recall that after the introduction of the External Independent Assessment and subsequently the NMT, these medals did not provide advantages when entering a university.
