Norwegian intelligence agencies reported that Russia “could be considered suitable” to carry out sabotage especially in the oil industry, whereas last year such a possibility seemed unlikely.
The head of the Norwegian intelligence service, Nils Andreas Stensenes, suggested that Russia could sabotage oil and gas facilities in Norway. He spoke about this in an interview with Reuters.
The level of risk in the facilities has increased significantly compared to last year.
“The level of danger has changed. We think sabotage has become more likely, and we are seeing sabotage in Europe, which indicates that the Russians have made some progress here,” he said.
This year, Norwegian intelligence agencies reported that Russia “could be considered suitable” to carry out sabotage especially in the oil industry, whereas last year such a possibility seemed unlikely.
According to Stensenes, Moscow will avoid provocations that could lead to the intensification of NATO’s collective defense.
Following the Nord Stream explosion in 2022, Norway deployed its navy to guard oil and gas platforms in the North Sea.
Earlier, Western intelligence agencies revealed Russian plans for assassinations, arson and other acts of sabotage in Europe against companies and people associated with supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Germany also received reliable information from one of the foreign intelligence services “about preparatory actions for Russian sabotage against NATO bases using drones.”
