Both sides discussed important security issues, particularly the tension in the South China Sea. Paparo called on China to abandon dangerous tactics to avoid escalation. He mentioned the importance of continuing negotiations to avoid misunderstandings and miscalculations.
The meeting came after agreements reached in August during US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s visit to Beijing.
