Pictures from the Ukrainian language book for 7th graders were distributed online, showing a map without Crimea.
Education and Science Minister Oksen Lisovoy called Ukrainian-language textbooks with a map of Ukraine without Crimea a “technical error” that the publisher will correct at his own expense. Lisovoy wrote this on Monday, September 9, on Facebook, emphasizing that Crimea is Ukraine.
He noted that the Ministry of Education has questions about the quality of school textbooks. They are related to the activities of the Institute for Modernization of Educational Content and are not raised for the first time.
“Starting from September 2, 2024, by the decision of the ministry, the evaluation will be provided by the Ukrainian Institute for Educational Development (UIDE) In 2025-2026, the Ministry of Education and Science will complete the reorganization of the Institute for Modernization of. Educational Content To solve the issue of the quality of textbooks once and for all, “said Lisovoy.
In turn, publishing house Litera LTD, which published the textbook, admitted its mistake and recalled the edition, the statement said. They have confirmed that they will publish a corrected edition at their own expense.
Litera LTD noted that the situation occurred due to a technical error by the designer and an omission by the editors during the final preparation of the publication for printing.
“The chief designer of the publishing house was fired, and everyone involved in the release of the book was reprimanded with sanctions,” the company added.
They apologized to the public, students, teachers and the group of textbook authors.
We remind you that in the Ukrainian language textbooks for the 7th grade of Anastasia Onatiy and Taras Tkachuk they found a map of Ukraine without Crimea. A map of Ukraine without the peninsula is drawn next to the words of the national anthem. This textbook was published in 2024 and has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science.
We remind you that in Hungary they developed a geography textbook for 8th grade students, full of anti-Ukrainian propaganda and distorted facts. Educational material can set up students for hostile attitude towards Ukraine
