A special commission of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry is investigating the fighter plane crash and expects the results to be known soon. The deceased F-16 pilot shot down two missiles and simply attacked, pursuing a third cruise missile, using onboard weapons. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky in an interview with CNN.
I think that the results of the investigation will be known to everyone in the near future. And on the one hand, we are not going to hide it, and on the other hand, the effectiveness of using these aircraft has been proven by the results – the destruction of four cruise missiles by an F-16, so this will certainly strengthen our defense capability, first of all, in the fight against hostile cruise missiles, – the head of the Air Force noted.
Syrsky also emphasized that the F-16 pilots were prepared. They were trained in the educational institutions of the allies. In general, the best pilots, who already had experience in the effective use of aircraft, were selected for these tasks.
Recall that on August 29, The Wall Street Journal reported that one of the F-16 fighters had crashed in Ukraine. Subsequently, the Ukrainian command confirmed the loss of the F-16 and announced the death of pilot Alexei Mes.
