Former US President Donald Trump believes that the best way to stop wars is to introduce tariffs. Meanwhile, sanctions, in his opinion, should not be abused. He said this in a speech at a meeting of the Economic Club in New York.
The presidential candidate reiterated that if he had been president, the war in Ukraine and the escalation of conflict in the Middle East would not have happened. He also reiterated that if elected, he would be able to end the war in Ukraine before even taking office as president.
“I can solve this war and stop it because it’s a terrible, terrible war. And many more people are dying in Ukraine – more people than you can imagine,” he said.
Trump added that for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, “war works at $100 a barrel” of oil, but it won’t work at $40. And the world, he is convinced, will once again return to a state where people do not talk about the possibility of using nuclear weapons.
He also believes that sanctions are a powerful weapon that should not be abused so as not to undermine the stability of the dollar. Instead, other trade measures can be used to have a greater impact, such as tariffs.
Trump previously said he would “get a negotiation” between Putin and Zelensky if elected.
He also assured that the conflict in the Middle East could escalate into a third world war if he does not win the US election.
