President Zelensky hopes that “others will follow suit” if he can get at least one country to agree to long-range strikes against Russia, he said in a September 7 commentary to journalists at the telethon.
There is no consensus yet. But I remember how I worked on the use of appropriate weapons on the territory of Crimea. There was no consensus then either, but it is important to find the key to at least one country, and then others can follow suit, the president said.
He noted that he had met with Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on this matter. He also had a conversation on this matter with French President Emmanuel Macron and a meeting with George Maloney.
Next, Zelenskyy is to summarize these conversations with US President Joe Biden. He noted that if the situation in the country is resolved, he will go to the UN General Assembly in September, where he will discuss this issue with the US President.
He also criticised Britain for delaying the delivery of new Storm Shadow missiles.
The Telegraph quotes the Ukrainian president:
And this (restriction on the use of weapons) concerns even our territory occupied by Russia, including Crimea. We believe that it is wrong that such steps are being taken.
Ukraine has repeatedly asked the UK, US and France to allow the use of long-range missiles supplied by the West to strike airfields, launchers, ammunition and fuel depots, and command and control posts on Russian territory.
