Countries participating in the Contact Group provide Ukraine with air defense systems, armored vehicles, artillery shells and F-16 aircraft.
The February 2022 Ukraine Defense Contact Group secured more than $106 billion in security and defense assistance to Kyiv. This is what US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said following the 24th meeting in the Ramstein format in Germany, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, the countries participating in the Contact Group provide Ukraine with air defense systems, armored vehicles, artillery shells and F-16 aircraft.
Austin noted that some countries contributed more in terms of their own GDP than the United States, and new aid announcements continued for Ukraine. In particular, he noted Denmark’s latest statement on support for Ukraine in the short and long term. At the same time, according to him, Denmark’s purchase of new equipment for the Ukrainian defense industry is important.
In addition, Austin mentioned Norway’s initiative to support the production of 155-mm shells in Ukraine using technology.
The Pentagon chief also said that the United States is proud of its contribution. Since Ramstein’s last meeting in June alone, the United States has provided more than $4 billion in defense aid to Ukraine.
The US Secretary of Defense assured that the United States, along with its coalition partners, will continue to focus on Ukraine’s urgent needs.
We remind you that President Vladimir Zelensky spoke with the German Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius as part of a meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format. Representatives of the two countries discussed the schedule for providing additional defense assistance to Kyiv from Berlin.
It has also been reported that the Netherlands plans to provide Ukraine with equipment and materials for the maintenance of F-16 fighters, as well as air-to-air missiles.
