The former acting director of the Department of State Procurement and Supply of Material Resources of the Ministry of Defense was informed about the suspicion of negligence in the service. The Office of the Prosecutor General announced this on September 5.

It was noted that the military officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, under the martial law in 2022-2023, concluded agreements with business entities on the supply of lubricants, oils and distillates for special purposes that equipment for state needs.

The suspect unfairly included the value added tax in these contracts in 2022. Such actions caused more than UAH 1.1 billion damage to the state.

Currently, a preventive measure has been chosen for him.

Also, this former official of the Ministry of Defense is suspected of embezzling more than 1.7 billion UAH of budget funds and obstructing the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – the purchase of low-quality body armor at high price.

It is reported that VAKS conducts criminal proceedings in cases of former officers who embezzle public funds and obstruct the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by purchasing low-quality body armor, uniforms and other ammunition for the total cost of almost 1.3 billion UAH.

Let’s remember that detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security stopped an accountant for one of the suppliers of the Ministry of Defense when he was carrying 4.7 million euros in the trunk of his car.

It was also reported that officials of the Poltava City Council were suspected of embezzlement in the purchase of drones.
