The Verkhovna Rada supported an increase in expenditures by UAH 500 billion.
On Tuesday, September 3, the parliament supported the revised government bill No. 11417 on increasing budget expenditures by UAH 500 billion in the first reading with 301 votes. People’s Deputy from “Holos” Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this on Telegram.
The explanatory note indicated that the draft proposed adjusting the budget by UAH 434 billion, namely: increasing expenditure by UAH 500 billion (of which UAH 495 billion was for the security and defense sector) and reducing expenditure and loans by UAH 65.7 billion.
To cover additional expenses, it is planned to increase budget revenues by UAH 214 billion and finance the budget for debt transactions by UAH 220 billion.
According to the initiators, this will increase the maximum state budget deficit by 2.8% and the maximum state debt by UAH 220 billion.
Zheleznyak added that the timeframe for preparing for the second reading has been cut in half. That is, the law should be adopted during September and will come into force on October 1.
Also today, the parliament did not pass the updated bill on increasing taxes No. 11416-d. It was two votes short. Before that, it was supported by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance.
Recall that recently Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the 2025 state budget is short almost $15 billion for civilian needs. The government stated that this money will have to be found either in internal sources, or by finalizing agreements with partners, or from $50 billion confiscated from Russian assets.
