This is the Kremlin leader’s first trip to a state that is a party to the ICC’s Rome Statute since the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in March 2023.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin arrived on a visit to Mongolia. Russian media reported this on Monday, September 2.
The main part of the visit is expected to take place tomorrow. Putin will hold talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, and will also meet with local government members and parliamentarians.
Negotiations between Putin and Khurelsukh will be held in narrow and expanded formats. They will discuss areas of interaction between Mongolia and the Russian Federation, including cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, energy, transport, including rail communications, as well as international and regional issues. Special attention will be paid to issues of education and expansion of teaching in Russian, as well as training Mongolian youth in Russian universities.
After the talks, Putin and Khurelsukh will attend the signing ceremony of Russian-Mongolian intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents, and then make statements to the media.
After completing his visit to Mongolia, Putin will go to Vladivostok to participate in the ninth Eastern Economic Forum.
Last week it became known that Putin was planning a visit to Mongolia. The trip was his first to a state party to the ICC’s Rome Statute since the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator in March 2023.
It was later learned that the Kremlin was “not worried” about Putin’s visit to Mongolia. According to media reports, Mongolian authorities will not arrest him.
Ukraine and the ICC have called on Mongolia to arrest the Kremlin leader upon his arrival in the country.
At the same time, the ICC admitted that Mongolia had a chance to avoid Putin’s arrest.
