The French representative at the UN said that Russia only understands the balance of power, so Kyiv should be able to launch long-term strikes on the Russian Federation.
France supports Ukraine’s right to strike military targets on Russian territory. French Permanent Representative Nicolas de Riviere stated this in a speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform reports.
A meeting of the UN Security Council took place on Wednesday, August 30, at the request of Russia regarding the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.
Riviere stressed that Ukraine needs the ability to hit military targets where attacks are being carried out in Ukraine.
“Russia is striking the border regions of Ukraine from military facilities located across the Russian border. The Ukrainians must be able to reach the targets where Russia is carrying out its aggression. Those must neutralize “Ukrainians are the targets of the military directly involved in conducting operations against them. This is Ukraine exercising its right of self-defense, which is not limited to the territory of Ukraine,” said Riviere.
He emphasized that France “will continue to provide Ukraine with the military assistance it needs to protect its territory and airspace in accordance with Article 15 of the UN Charter.”
“It’s clear that Russia only understands the balance of power,” the diplomat said.
We previously reported that the British permanent representative to the UN emphasized that Ukraine has the right to self-defense from Russian attacks, in particular, by “projecting force” on enemy territory.
As reported, Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN, Sergei Kislitsa, on Thursday, August 29, called on members of the Security Council to consider making a decision on allowing Ukraine to launch long-range strikes deep in Russian Federation on legitimate targets.
