The European Union said that this year the total number of Ukrainian fighters trained by the EU will increase to 75 thousand.
This year, the European Union will increase the number of Ukrainian military personnel who will undergo training as part of the EU support mission for Ukraine by 15 thousand people. This was agreed upon by participants in an informal meeting of the EU Council of Ministers on Defense, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said at a press conference on Friday, August 30.
Thus, the total number of fighters trained by the EU will be 75 thousand.
“Regarding our military support mission EUMAM – it is a great success. It is the most successful training mission the EU has ever carried out. It enabled the training of 60 thousand (military personnel). Today the ministers agreed to increase the target for training 75 thousand, that is, to have more than 15 thousand (trained military – ed.) This is also good news.
He noted that the EU is working to make the training mission as “practical” as possible and to simplify access to it as much as possible for Ukrainian military personnel. At the same time, the EU plans to increase the participation of Ukrainian instructors in training and intends to ensure strong coordination of the mission with both Ukraine and NATO.
In particular, Borrell announced the decision to create a small coordination center in Kyiv, aimed at increasing operational efficiency.
Let’s recall that Borrell also reported that the European Union supplied Ukraine with approximately 700 thousand 155-mm artillery shells from the promised 1 million.
