The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry today, August 30, issued a statement calling on Mongolia to arrest Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during his planned visit to the country.
The Ukrainian side hopes that the Mongolian government will realize that Vladimir Putin is a war criminal. His arrest on suspicion of illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation was ordered by the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction is recognized by Mongolia, the Foreign Ministry noted.
The Foreign Ministry reminds that the kidnapping of Ukrainian children is only one of many crimes for which Puty and the rest of the Russian military-political leadership must be brought to justice.
These individuals are guilty of an aggressive war against Ukraine, atrocities against the Ukrainian people, murder, rape, robbery, shelling of civilian infrastructure and genocide, the Foreign Ministry noted. We call on the Mongolian authorities to comply with the mandatory international arrest warrant and hand Putin over to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Putin’s visit to Mongolia, scheduled for September 3, will be his first trip to an ISS member country since an arrest warrant was issued for him in March 2023. According to Bloomberg sources, Putin has received assurances that he will not be arrested under the ISS warrant.
