A new wave of fraud related to the dismissal of Ukrainian heroes and heroines and the search for missing persons is raging in Ukraine. Criminals are exploiting the hopes and fears of our soldiers’ families.
Human Rights Commissioner Dmitry Lubinets warned about this on his Telegram channel.
According to the ombudsman, fraudsters pose as volunteers, journalists, representatives of government agencies or even the aggressor country, playing on emotions, promising dismissal, important information or even arranging a call with relatives. But for this, the scammers demand money – supposedly “payment” for their “services”.
Lubinets calls for vigilance to avoid falling into the trap of these unprincipled criminals:
- always check sources of information;
- Never share personal information with strangers or disclose sensitive information on social media, even in private messages;
- Beware of any financial offers that involve “liberation” or “help.”
Remember: official government agencies and volunteer organizations never take money for assistance or providing information, he notes.
If you receive suspicious offers of “help” for a reward, do not hesitate – contact the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center for the Search and Release of Prisoners under the SBU, and immediately inform the cyber police about a new fraudulent scheme to release prisoners, – he added.
