The United States has pledged to double the production of artillery shells, which Ukraine uses to confront the enemy, by October.
An ammunition plant in Pennsylvania, USA, which produces artillery shells for shipment to Ukraine, increased production by 50% – from 24,000 to 36,000 rounds per month. The Associated Press wrote this on Wednesday, August 28.
It is indicated that three more new production lines are under development.
“The Scranton plant works like this: it forges 907-kilogram steel bars into 155-mm howitzer shells, where they are filled with explosives and equipped with fuses Ukraine,” wrote AP .
The plant indicates that they now mainly produce 155 mm ammunition.
“We are working very hard to achieve the goal that the Pentagon has set for us,” Richard Hansen, the spokesman for the Army plant’s commander, told reporters.
The agency said the Pennsylvania plant was a locomotive repair shop in the early 20th century. The US Department of Defense then purchased the facilities and turned it into a plant for the production of large-caliber artillery for the Korean War. Since 2006, the plant has been operated by General Dynamics under a contract with the US government, which owns the plant.
Lithuania has donated forklifts, anti-drone systems, folding beds and other military aid to Ukraine as part of its latest defense package.
At an emergency meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, the allies condemned Russia’s latest attack on Ukrainian infrastructure and pledged to step up support for Ukraine.
