The Lithuanian government has extended the validity of temporary residence permits for Ukrainians fleeing the war. The deadline has been extended to March 4, 2026, allowing permits to be issued for this period. LRT reported it.
Every day 30-40 new applications for temporary residence are registered in Lithuania. Today more than 44.3 thousand Ukrainians have already received these types.
Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite noted that this decision will reduce the administrative burden on Ukrainians, as their documents will be valid for longer. The extension is based on the decision of the European Union taken in June this year.
The temporary safeguard mechanism at the EU level was activated on 4 March 2022, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Let’s recall that on June 25, the EU Council decided to extend temporary protection until March 4, 2026 for more than 4 million Ukrainians who fled the Russian aggression.
It has also been reported that the attitude towards Ukrainian refugees in Poland is worsening.
