Pavel Durov faces 20 years in prison in France. He will be tried as a citizen of this country.
At the French Le Bourget airport on Saturday, August 24, the founder and CEO of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov was detained, reports the French TV channel TF1.
It was noted that Durov was detained by air transport gendarmerie officers immediately after the private plane landed at around 20:00 local time.
When he was arrested, he was accompanied by a security guard and a woman. It was reported that the arrest was made as part of a preliminary investigation under a French arrest warrant.
According to media reports, Durov is on the list of wanted people in France and came to France from Azerbaijan.
TF1 says Durov will appear in court this Saturday. He will be charged with several counts – for all the crimes allegedly committed using Telegram and in which Durov did not interfere, as well as for the investigations in which he refused to cooperate with the French security forces.
The TV channel said Pavel Durov faces 20 years in prison in France. He will be tried as a citizen of this country.
The request to detain Durov was made by the department for combating crimes against minors, that is, security forces investigating crimes committed by pedophiles. In France, they believe that Telegram has become a big platform for them.
The media also reported that searches were being conducted in French real estate properties owned by Durov.
In the past, Pavel Durov said that he has more than 100 children who now live in 12 countries.
