It is noted that the probability of such cases occurring is assessed as low due to the lack of transport and air connectivity.
In Ukraine, not a single case of monkeypox has been recorded. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin in a telethon on Wednesday, August 21.
Kuzin explained that the probability of such cases occurring is assessed as low due to the lack of transport and air connections.
He also clarified that there was a response regarding monkeypox and corresponding WHO recommendations even before the full-scale invasion.
At the same time, he added that the emergency declared by the WHO is related to the emergence of a new subtype of the monkeypox virus, which is currently mostly found in previously unexposed populations.
During the first wave of monkeypox, Ukraine received vaccines against the disease thanks to the EU.
The first case of monkeypox outside of Africa was recorded in Sweden. The patient was infected during a trip to Africa.
Symptoms: fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and after a few days a rash appears on the body. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for complete recovery, but there are complications.
The main route of infection in African countries is contact with diseased rodents and wild animal meat. The disease can also be transmitted after contact with the rash (in a patient), for example, during intercourse.
