American military leaders continue to discuss with their Ukrainian counterparts their long-term goals with Russia.
The Pentagon in Kiev continues to discuss the objectives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. US Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder announced this in a briefing on Tuesday, August 20.
“We have continued to talk with the Ukrainians about what they are focusing on. You heard that President Zelensky said it was to create a buffer zone, so we are having these talks to learn more about their goals,” Ryder said.
According to him, the United States is committed to ensuring that Ukraine is an independent and sovereign country capable of deterring future Russian aggression.
“Regarding their operation in Kursk, as I already mentioned, they clearly forced the Russians to fight. It certainly showed the creativity and fighting skills of the Ukrainians. But when it comes to what their long-term goal is here, We are still talking about them,” the spokesperson added.
He commented on the possibility of using long-range ATACMS missiles on Russian territory: “Our policy remains unchanged in terms of using strike forces and long-range weapons to carry out deep strikes. As we have already said, the defensive operations across the border are permitted and I will stop there.
Let’s remember that the previous day, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin spoke with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
